The Boxing Gym Florissant is home to some of the finest Instructors in St. Louis. Our Competition Teams exist not only for those individuals who
wish to compete in Combat Sports, but also for those individuals who simply want to learn the varied skills of an MMA fighter without having to
compete. By being a member one of the Teams you can also expect to get into the best shape of your life as a result of our “Fight Fit”
conditioning drills.
IMPORTANT: Whereas some facilities are known for producing great strikers, and other great ground-fighters, The Boxing Gym is known for
producing
well-balanced fighters who can win whether on their feet or on the ground. Ours is the most unique and cost-effective training in
St. Louis. If you are a member of one of our teams, then you may also train with the others for no additional cost. Not only this, but there
is also an open invitation to go to the
St. Peters location of The Boxing Gym and
train with the
St. Peters Boxing Team.
TBG Florissant Teams
Muay Thai Team – The national sport of Thailand, Muay Thai is referred to as "The Science of Eight Limbs", as the hands, shins, elbows, and knees
are all used extensively in this art. A master practitioner of Muay Thai thus has the ability to execute strikes using eight "points of contact,"
as opposed to "two points" (fists) in Western boxing and "four points" (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts.
Some of the most devastating strikers in the world are that way because of Muay Thai.
Jiu-Jitsu Team – Submission grappling at its finest. Unlike the vast majority of martial arts and combat sports, Jiu-Jitsu does not rely on the
strength and athleticism of the practitioner to effect a victory. It promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person using leverage and
proper technique can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant. The style of Jiu-Jitsu practiced here focuses on
grappling and especially ground fighting with the goal of gaining a dominant position and using joint-locks and chokeholds to force an opponent
to submit.
Boxing Team – Boxing (sometimes known as the sweet science, pugilism, or English boxing) is a combat sport in which two participants of similar
weight fight each other with their fists. Victory is achieved if the opponent is knocked down and unable to get up before the referee counts to
ten (a Knockout, or KO) or if the opponent is deemed too injured to continue (a Technical Knockout, or TKO). If there is no stoppage of the fight
before an agreed number of rounds, a winner is determined either by the referee's decision or by judges' scorecards.
MMA Team – Mixed Martial Arts is a catch-all term to describe the style of fighting popularized by the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship).
While many other organizations exist that promote MMA fights, UFC is the most widely known. MMA involves 2 people squaring off against one
another in either a cage or a ring—ways to win include by knockout, submission, or decision. Combatants may punch, kick, knee, elbow, wrestle,
throw, and use submission techniques such as joint locks and chokes in order to force an opponent to give up. In MMA, only the most efficient and
useful techniques survive, which is why no one martial art has dominated… To be successful in MMA at a high level, one must be a balanced fighter,
capable of absorbing the best of what many different martial arts discipline have to offer.
